As we know, Bitcoin was worth about 10 cents pre-coin in its early days in 2009. Right now, the Bitcoin price is about €5800 (not even speaking of its December prices). Put this together and what you get is a bunch of people, who were at the right time in the right place, Bitcoin millionaires. We bring you a list of top ten Bitcoin millionaires over the years:
1. Satoshi Nakamoto – The Creator
Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, is as of now the major Bitcoin holder. His portfolio? 1 million coins (thanks to early mining). Put it together with the current price and what you get is astronomic €5800 000 000. To this day he has barely touched his coins, but if he would, let’s say sell his entire stash, the value of Bitcoin, in general, would plummet overnight.
2. Gavin Andresen – The Successor
Is Gavin the notorious Satoshi Nakamoto? Well, he denies this claim. What we know is that he has been chosen as the successor of Bitcoin and thanks to his work Bitcoin has made it this far. With his 25 thousand coins, he could today enjoy about €145 000 000.
3. Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss
Famous twins (Facebook case) have used $11 million investment to Bitcoin back in 2013. The price of one coin was about $120 in 2013 which means that the profit would be about €5700 per-coin today. Using the calculator for this one, you would get around €638 000 000. Also, the Winklevoss’ twins attempted to apply for a Bitcoin ETF.
4. Roger Ver – The Bitcoin Jesus
Ex-US citizen, Bitcoin evangelist, Roger Ver who is not dreaming of luxury cars, mansions and the like, is known to hold around 300 thousand Bitcoins. That counts as €1740 000 000. Luckily his passion is Jiu-Jitsu and charity, not trading.
5. Barry Silbert
Barry Silbert is the founder of Digital Currency Group and one of the early adopters of Bitcoin. It is known that he has won an auction of 48 thousand Bitcoins (search Ross Ulbricht) and that has helped to raise his coins value from €15 000 000 to €250 000 000.
6. Charlie Shrem
Bitinstant founder (and again of the early Bitcoin adopters) who has even been in jail for a while (money laundering) is believed to sit on $45 000 000 made out of Bitcoin. Not bad considering he was 22 years old when he founded Bitinstatnt.
7. Tony Gallippi
The brain behind the popular payment service BitPay is also believed to be a big fish in Bitcoin world. The rumors are that his Bitcoin net worth is $20 000 000.
8. The FBI
Federal Bureau is/was having a fortune when it comes to Bitcoin. In 2013, they busted Ross Ulbricht, also known as Dread Pirate Roberts, who has been behind the dark web drug bazaar. At that time, he was holding around 350 thousand Bitcoins. In today’s numbers, it would be €2 030 000 000. The fact that most of the FBI’s Bitcoins were sold over the years could be the reason for a few plummets on the market we have recently survived.
Bitfinex, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges, is believed to hold around 160 thousand Bitcoins in a cold storage, well protected from cryptocurrency criminals. At the current price, it is about €928 000 000.
The last “millionaire” on our list is the southeastern Europe country. As it turned out, fighting organized crime is quite a profitable job. In 2017, Bulgaria accomplished a seizure of 213 thousand Bitcoins. For the idea, this much Bitcoins could pay off almost 1/4 of the country’s national debt. Have they paid off? It is not known yet. By converting to a FIAT currency, Bulgaria would nowadays earn €1 235 400 000.
Around 35% of all Bitcoins are held by top 1000 Bitcoin addresses.
