You may remember our article about blockchain and its use in the real world which we have recently put on our blog. This article is focused on one particular use of the blockchain from the previous article, healthcare.
UK Meds, an online pharmacy, is partnering with Stratis Group to adopt the Blockchain technology. The company is ready to implement blockchain in the United Kingdom and is eager to collaborate with other online pharmacies in the country to set blockchain as the industry standard.
The whole idea of adopting blockchain is coming from people exploiting the current prescription model. With around 4000 digital patient prescriptions being handled daily by the UK Meds, it is necessary for the company to find the way how to stop this behavior.
It is not only UK Meds, but many other online UK pharmacies facing the same trouble. Lack of proper patient checks. Meaning, it is not difficult for people to order multiple prescriptions by registering several user accounts and giving some false information.
The vast majority of legal online UK pharmacies is lacking an alert system which would identify if someone is making multiple orders with the same address delivery. It basically means that one can exploit the system and get ahold of dozens of pills a month.
Adopting Stratis blockchain as the industry standard will mean putting all patient prescription requests on a shared distributed ledger of UK online pharmacies. This will help to ensure control over prescribed medication quantities.
Each patient will have a unique identifier which will allow doctors to deal with online consultations and with pharmacies responsible for medication preparation. Also, past medication request of online pharmacies, which will adopt Stratis blockchain, will be part of the system.
Blockchain technology in healthcare
UK Meds CEO, Joe Soiza, clearly sees the Stratis blockchain solution as the future of handling patients’ medicine requests.
Despite screening our own customers by IP addresses, phone numbers, cookies, and many other factors, there isn’t a cross-industry solution to identify patients attempting to obtain multiple orders of drugs, with opioids being a particular example. Clearly, our entire industry needs to come together to ensure we do everything possible to protect the vulnerable and utilizing Stratis’ technology can help us achieve that. The Stratis Platform provides a highly secure blockchain solution that can be shared across the industry to provide a trusted and verifiable record of patient requests for medicine. We are initiating this programme, and we have over 10 online pharmacies onboard already. It’s our ambition for this to become the de facto standard across the entire UK industry.

In addition to handling the patients’ medical requests, there is yet another blockchain feature which is UK Meds going to use. The company will use the Stratis blockchain for its logistics solutions as well. Each shipment will be trackable and traceable by logging onto the blockchain. The first record will be logged by the manufacturer, another during the transport and another upon delivering to UK Meds. Blockchain powered track and trace will ensure that everything about the shipment will be right.
The blockchain is, in fact, a great new technology and as we can see it is undoubtedly on the way to our regular lives. Stay tuned as we will monitor future blockchain real-life use and report back. Your reliable crypto partner, BITCOIN DATA.
